It comes after the former Tory minister was discovered by an employee at her home in Dartmoor, Devon, on July 9, after she was allegedly hit over the head with a hammer 21 times. However, no arrests were made and the investigation was subsequently closed “pending new lines of enquiry”. The attempted burglary investigation has since been re-opened with counter-terror cops in London identifying a new line of enquiry which was not pursued at the time “which may have been relevant”. Counter Terrorism Policing London has today made a mandatory conduct referral to the police watchdog as a result. They said they would “engage fully and comprehensively with the IOPC on this matter”. Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing Vicki Evans said: “The victims and families in both investigations have been updated today, and we continue to support them. “Given the nature of this matter and the significant public interest in the investigation into Ann Widdecombe’s death, it was of critical importance for us to provide this update.
