Coronation Street’s Tina O’Brien ponders future as Sarah ‘isn’t forever’

| Soaps Reporter Published October 7, 2026 11:41am Updated October 7, 2026 11:41am The future isn’t certain for Sarah Platt (Picture: ITV) Sarah Platt’s future on Coronation Street is currently in jeopardy as she awaits trial for murder, and actress Tina O’Brien has been thinking about life beyond the ITV soap. Everything fell apart for Sarah earlier this year when she killed Theo Silverton after the truth of his abuse of Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) was exposed. Sarah and Theo ended up on the scaffolding outside his flat, where Theo taunted and threatened her. Terrified for her safety, Sarah lashed out with a metal bar and knocked Theo to the ground, killing him. She eventually confessed to killing Theo in self-defence, and has been in prison awaiting trial ever since. Tina has played Sarah since 1999, but recently she has admitted that she may not want to play the role forever. Sarah faces trial next week (Picture: ITV) ‘I am really happy here at Corrie. Do I want to do it forever? I don’t know, but I am very grateful for a job I genuinely love,’ she told Bella Magazine. Thinking about what life would be like away from the cobbles, Tina added: ‘I love being able to come home for my son. If I were a jobbing actress, I’d have to go to a lot of auditions. ‘This role enables me to be there for my son and do something I am passionate about.’ Todd Grimshaw comes to Sarah’s defence (Picture: ITV) Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. Next week, Sarah will finally have her day in court, but will things work out in her favour? As the trial gets underway, the prosecution paint Sarah as a vengeful vigilante, and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson) and Lisa Connor-Swain’s (Vicky Myers) testimonies don’t exactly help Sarah’s case. The next day, Todd steps up to the witness stand in defence of Sarah, but will it be enough to persuade the jury?
