Coronation Street’s Liam Scholes reveals horrifying hospital dash and rabies fears after MONKEY bite on holiday

CORONATION Street star Liam Scholes has revealed he was treated for RABIES after being bitten by a monkey in Egypt. The actor, who now stars in Waterloo Road, was bitten by the creature during a family holiday and has now spoken for the first time about what happened. So I given me two quid, and I went in, and then he had this monkey on a lead, which is, I wasn’t that happy, it was a bit inhumane, you know what I mean? Sign up for the Coronation Street newsletter Thank you! “And then the monkey jumps onto my shoulder and he was trying to pull the monkey off, so it’s the monkey made, but I can only describe as a shriek. “It kind of just dug itself into my shoulder. And I will never, ever go back to Hurghada hospital ever again, ’cause it was a crazy place.” Liam plays Noel in Waterloo Road Credit: BBC He opened up about the ordeal exclusively to The Sun Credit: instagram/liam_scholes_ Worst of all, Liam fell ill with suspected RABIES in the desert and was forced to buy a photo package from the dodgy zookeeper in order to get to a hospital. He added: “I was in the desert for ages, like, hours after. And then my shoulder went from being normal to, like, yellow, but, like, kind of gami pus-y way, it was disgusting. “So I was saying to the bloke, I was like, Listen, lad, I need to get to the hospital, but we’re about five hours away from anything in the desert, and he said, ‘if you buy the photo package, I’ll send a driver to come and get you’. “So I had to pay 60 quid for the photos of me on a camel, and there wasn’t a photo with me and a monkey, so I’m devastated. I’m fine though. I had to have rabies shots, and that was, like, two months, it took. Most read in TV “You got to have, like, so many weeks in between. And then there’s been no real side effects, other than I started throwing crap out my window.” The actor also revealed that he’s taken to working shifts in his friend’s bar – just to keep busy between acting jobs. “It’s my mate’s bar, Finders Keepers in Ancoats,” he said. “I have to keep working otherwise I become a headcase.” When Liam initially posted about the ordeal, he said that his new girlfriend Rosin was his “very own life saver”. During his Corrie days, Liam was well-known for playing the role of Eli Higginson, a friend of criminal, Corey Brent. After five months and a lot of on-screen drama, Liam’s role naturally ended once he was held in police custody. But less than two years later, in 2023, he landed a part with hit BBC show: Waterloo Road. Liam portrays Noel McManus, a kitchen assistant apprentice at Waterloo Road High School. He’s also the fiancé of Stace Neville (Tillie Amartey), a student at that same school. Stace asked Noel to marry her, becoming the second teen girl still at the school to get engaged. 1 comment1
