Coronation Street star finally reveals why Jodie is tormenting Shona

Twisted sisters (Picture: ITV) It’s hard to predict what Jodie Ramsey – Coronation Street’s bunny-boiling baddie – will do next. Or even why she does it. She was giving off creepy Single White Female when first introduced in January. Now she’s basically a chic brunette Hannibal Lecter with a Mancunian accent. The twisted sister of Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) has bee trying to cuckoo-in-the nest her way into her half-sister’s family. This includes her premature baby Harper, her stepdaughter Lily (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner), and her husband David Platt (Jack P Shepherd). The problem is, while Shona may have a blind spot where her sis is concerned, David’s wise to her little game. Jodie tried and failed once before to lure a drunken David into bed by lying in his bed wearing Shona’s nightie with the lights off. Not her best cunning plan. Unfortunately, Jodie’s upped her unhinged game since then. Now she’s all about trying to gaslight Shona into believing she’s an unfit mother – and David too. Corrie’s answer to fatal attraction almost burnt the house down to make it look like a sleeping Shona had left the oven on. But endangering poor baby Harper by pouring boiling water into her bath tub was just plain evil. Olivia Frances-Brown, who plays our favourite Corrie crackpot, is here to guide you through the Freudian nightmare that is Jodie’s head. ‘It’s all about her warped mind.’ Olivia explains. ‘Jodie has convinced herself that David symbolises her potential for future happiness. She’s lost the plot a little bit and truly believes David is the answer to all her wants and needs – which obviously isn’t reality! She’s just completely hooked on that idea now. She’s convinced herself that if she gets him and takes over that life, she’ll finally be content. Jodie hates Shona for leaving her at the mercy of their unstable, toxic dad Doug(Steve Evets) when she was just a child. To be fair, Shona was a pregnant teenage mum who was desperate to escape. But Jodie’s not interested in excuses. Just revenge, as Olivia knows full well… ‘She practically worships Shona’ Olivia shares. ‘So much so that they’ve got matching tattoos. But those feelings are mixed with animosity that comes from childhood abandonment.’ ‘Jodie idolises Shona so much that she literally wants to step into her shoes, take over her life and know what that feels like.’ Olivia explains. ‘By taking over David, the house, the role with Harper – she genuinely wants to know how it feels to be Shona. ‘She loves her sister, but she wishes Shona had treated her differently throughout her life. There’s a deep need to get her own back and have some sort of revenge. As much as she cares about their relationship, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the happiness she feels she deserves.’ However, don’t expect that plan to go smoothly. Upcoming episodes will see the family feud between Shona and Jodie reach breaking point. Accusations fly and secrets are exposed, pushing one of them to their limit. The same gun, perhaps, that she’s been keeping in the house all this time? Whatever the case,situation spirals into chaos and a gunshot rings out. As the dust settles, one person lies stricken. Who takes the bullet? Is anyone hurt… or worse? What was Jodie thinking? What was the point of all that scheming. And what was with that of weird trinket box full of her neighbours stolen stuff? The answer, according to Olivia is simple – Jodie has completely lost it. ‘When pushed, you just don’t know what she’s capable of. She has a lot of dark secrets, she’s seen a lot and she has a genuinely sinister side to her. She’s driven herself completely crazy with this huge fantasy. It’s not rooted in reality anymore, she’s completely lost her marbles.’ ‘That bitterness and jealousy were always inside her.
