A big goodbye (Picture: ITV) The day nobody wanted is finally here. Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) is leaving Coronation Street. We’re not crying, you’re crying. That’s right, we’re waving good by to the alt-goth Queen of Roy’s Rolls, whose departure was announced earlier this year. The no-nonsense alt-goth was first introduced back in 2019, as the long lost niece of the nicest man in Weatherfield, Roy Cropper (David Neilson). Being attached to such a beloved Coronation Street local was the best in any character could hope for. However, Nina made the viewers fall in love with her all by herself, with her kindness, integrity, and her authenticity. All the black roses and eyeliner probably helped too. Nina captured the heart of a nation (Picture: ITV) Nina’s gothic identity wasn’t just an aesthetic choice by Corrie. It was a serious story point that saw her and and boyfriend Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) violently attacked by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) and his gang, simply because of Nina’s alternative style – loosely based on the real-life murder of Sophie Lancaster. This led to Seb’s own tragic death Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. In the heartbreaking aftermath, a devastated Nina turned her back on everything that was ‘alternative’ and ‘different’ about her. Fortunately, Nina got her gothic groove back thanks to the loving support of her bestie-turned-girlfriend Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey). The doomed romance of Nasha (Picture: ITV) This led to one of the most shippable couples on the Cobbles of all time – Nasha. Unfortunately, Nina blew up their relationship by kissing her girlfriend’s twin brother Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain). Honestly, the saddest part of Nina’s exit is that we don’t appear to be getting a Nasha reconciliation, especially now Asha’s pursing romance with newcomer Sienna Milburn (Charlotte Tyree). This is made all the more awkward by the fact that Nina still lives with Asha. Things have been awkward between Asha and Nina (Picture: ITV) However, the time for a reunion between the pair has seemingly run out, asactress Mollie Gallagher will be joining the cast of Silence of The Lambs, as Clarice Starling, the brilliant but troubled FBI agent who must work with cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter to bring another murderer to justice. Consequently, we’ll be saying goodbye to Mollie – and Nina – next week. With so much murder and danger in Corrie of late, fans might be worried that Nina will leave the Cobbles in a box. Those fans can relax. Fortunately, she’s going somewhere arguably less scary than death – Whitby. In next week’s Coronation Street, Nina returns after a stay in Whitby and soon finds out that she’s been made an offer that means bidding Weatherfield farewell. After returning from Whitby, Nina tells Roy she’s certain she blew her interview at the art gallery. But Later at the Rovers, Nina receives a message from Ruby at the gallery offering her the job. What will Nina say? Will Roy ever see his favourite niece again? (Picture: ITV) In an interview earlier this year with Digital Spy, Mollie expressed relief that her character was not being killed off and hinted that the door was still open for a return. ‘I would not have been able to deal with that! Nina is such a unique character and I think there’s so much to do with her.’ ‘There’s her art – when she came into the show, she was really talented. I wanted to explore more of that.
