(Pictures: ITV) The soap schedules biggest enemy? Football, of course! But this time, Coronation Street and Emmerdale aren’t being dropped for the sake of a game of footy! No, this time, we can’t blame one of the seemingly-endless football tournaments for costing us a trip to Weatherfield and the Yorkshire Dales. We’re sacrificing our Tuesday night soap power-hour for the National Television Awards, airing on ITV between 8pm and 10.30pm. Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air tonight (Tuesday, September 8), with the television award show taking their slot. You’ll still get to catch a glimpse of your favourite Corrie and Emmerdale stars though, as the shows battle it out against BBC’s EastEnders and Casualty in the ‘Serial Drama’ category, as the shows vie for soap supremacy. From Wednesday onward, the schedule will return to normal, with the soap power hour being re-established, with Emmerdale airing between 8 and 8.30, with Corrie following between 8.30 and 9. What’s happening in Coronation Street this week? Already this week, we’ve seen Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) utterly reel from the revelation that he’s got stage three breast cancer, while also dealing with the fall out of sleeping with his ex-fiancée Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) daughter, Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon). When Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) overhears something incredibly juicy after sneaking her way into Kit’s flat, she begins to toy with Bethany while dangling the prospect of her revealing what she knows to Sarah, leading Bethany to realise she’ll need to face Jodie down if she has any hope of shutting her up. Luckily for Bethany, the re-emergence of Jodie’s dad, Doug (Steve Evets) steals her attention away from their burgeoning feud, but how long will Jodie leave Bethany alone? Elsewhere, Tim and Sally Metcalfe (Joe Duttine and Sally Dynevor) realise that they may well have bitten off more than they can feasibly chew when it comes to the deeply disturbed Lucy Parkinson (Anya Dewin), who’s reckless actions and twisted games leave Shanice Michaelis (Molly Kilduff) in serious danger. Later in the week, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) worries about her health, while David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) homecoming panics his wife Shona (Julia Goulding). What’s happening in Emmerdale this week? Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) continues to suffer in the aftermath of husband Jimmy’s (Nick Miles) death, particularly financially, when she suffers the sheer expenditure of the funeral. As she digs deeper and deeper into things, she’s floored to learn from Caleb Miligan (William Ash) that Jimmy sold his shares in the haulage firm for untaxed cash, and Nicola can’t find it anywhere. As she searches, though, she uncovers the fact that their home has been re-mortgaged, with Jimmy falling way behind on repayments: their family is absolutely ruined financially. Nicola is sickened to learn the extent of her financial trouble… (Picture: ITV) …while Charity faces an incredibly grim future (Picture: Mark Bruce/ITV) While Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) reveals his devious plot to fleece a grieving Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) of his farm to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller), Joe is still drowning in his agony at losing Dawn (Olivia Bromley). With his and Dawn’s son still in NICU, he makes an enormous decision about his baby’s future. Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) finds herself charged with the murder of Dr Todd (Caroline Harker) and faces an incredibly harsh reality: she may well be now completely out of options. She charges Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) with an important mission, and he delivers a St. Christopher to Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), who immediately understands what’s happening.
