POLICE have been given more time to quiz five people who were arrested on suspicion of murder after a newborn baby was found dead. Detectives launched a murder investigation after being called to a property in Sheffield at 5.58am on Sunday following concerns for a baby girl’s safety. Seven people, aged between 15 and 37, were quickly arrested on suspicion of murder. Two people, aged 26 and 37, have since been bailed. Yesterday, South Yorkshire Police obtained permission for further detention, allowing them to keep the other five people in custody as their investigation continues. It remains unclear if the people arrested were all living in the same property or what their relationship was to the girl. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward said: “Our priority from the outset of this investigation has been to secure justice for the baby girl at the centre of this heartbreaking case and we are working round the clock to ensure this is achieved. “This investigation is complex, with many different parts which are moving fast.
