Conor Benn reveals Ryan Garcia world title clash will be his LAST ever fight at welterweight after brutal weight cut

CONOR BENN has revealed his blockbuster world title showdown with Ryan Garcia will be the last time he ever fights at welterweight after admitting the brutal weight cut has become too much. The unbeaten Brit challenges Garcia for the WBC welterweight world title in Las Vegas on September 12 as he bids to fulfil a lifelong dream by winning the same belt once held by his father Nigel Benn. Benn, 29, told SunSport how he’s coping with dropping back down to the division for the first time since April 2022, Benn, 29, admitted: “The weight cut’s brutal, man. “It’s hard. It’s very hard. Benn has boxed as high as middleweight over the past two years, twice facing Chris Eubank Jr at 160lb before dropping back down to welterweight for the biggest fight of his career. The Essex star has spoken openly about the sacrifices required to make championship weight again, with the gruelling cut coming after more than three years away from the division. Yet despite the physical demands, Benn insists he is refusing to think about what victory over Garcia would mean. Winning would see him emulate his father by becoming WBC world champion. But with Garcia standing in his way, Benn, who has questioned the WBC champion’s legitimacy as a ‘real Mexican fighter’, says he cannot allow himself to dream just yet. He said: “I can’t really imagine it at the moment, because there’s a big task at hand. But the Destroyer insists none of it has distracted him. He said: “I don’t really indulge in the noise. “Eubank was so personal and dark that this is like a walk in the park. “There’s no hatred there. Is he my cup of tea? No. But he’s got my belt.” Instead of worrying about Garcia’s online antics, Benn says his focus has remained on one question every single day.
