Congress stands with ‘all daughters’ seeking justice, says Alka Lamba

President of the All India Mahila Congress and Special Invitee CWC, Alka Lamba, addressing the media at Congress Headquarters in New Delhi on September 4, 2026. | Photo Credit: Sushil Kumar Verma The Congress stands with “all the daughters” fighting for justice and will extend every possible support to them, All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba said on Friday (September 4, 2026), while raising the alleged assault of student activist Nishu Azad’s father and other cases involving young women.Addressing a press conference, Ms. Lamba said the party and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, stood with Ms. Azad, journalists Shaheen Khan and Nafisa Khan, and student activist Akriti Chaudhary, who participated in a protest at Jantar Mantar.Referring to the alleged assault of Ms. Azad’s father during the protest, Ms. Lamba said the student had only exercised her democratic right to express her views. She demanded action under appropriate provisions of law, including those relating to attempted murder against self-styled “Hindutva influencer” Swatantra Bhardwaj, who is accused in the matter.Ms. Lamba alleged that Mr. Bhardwaj had in a video recounted incidents of violence and used derogatory language against Dalits.On the alleged assault of journalists Ms. Shaheen Khan and Ms. Nafisa Khan, she demanded the immediate suspension of the police personnel involved and sought the release of CCTV footage of the incident.Two women journalists accused Delhi Police of detaining them and beating them with sticks in Saket on Thursday (September 4) while they were covering an event attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.Ms. Lamba also referred to Ms. Chaudhary’s arrest under the National Security Act in Noida. The Allahabad High Court subsequently quashed the detention order.“The Congress stands with these daughters, including Nishu Azad, and will extend all possible support to ensure that they get justice,” she said.
