Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. After a long wait, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero's massive Super Limit Breaking Neo expansion is finally here, bringing with it tons of new characters, customisation options, maps, and much more. Perhaps the most notable addition of the bunch, though, is a new single-player mode that's exclusive to the DLC called Limit Breaker Journey. It's an interesting addition with plenty to it, so let's dive in. What Is Limit Breaker Journey? Once you've downloaded the Super Limit Breaking Neo DLC, Limit Breaker Journey will not only unlock but also become the new default menu option when you first boot up the game. Limit Breaker Journey is a single-player mode where you choose a character to play as, and then get to level them up by exploring the world and doing battle with random opponents. Like Mission 100, the mode is meant to add a ton of replay value to Sparking Zero's single-player offerings, and give you something to do once you've exhausted Episode Battles and the other previously sparse single-player content. There's more to the mode than just battling, though, and it can be pretty tough to get through if you're not prepared. Here's what you need to know. Picking A Character And Initial Setup The first thing you do in Limit Breaker Journey is pick a character to play as, which can be anyone from the roster, including overpowered picks like Gogeta. You'll also get to pick their starting transformation, so if you want to make things a little easier on yourself, you can go kick things off in their most powerful form. Once you've picked a character, you'll create a new save with them that records their progress and lets you continue to level them up as much as you like. You're even able to use them outside of Limit Breaker Journey if you turn "Battle with Limit Breaker Journey Character" on in the Rule settings. It's sort of like training up an amiibo fighter in Smash, but far more interesting. You'll also be asked to pick a difficulty option after picking your character. You really should start off in Easy mode, since Sparking Zero's AI has been massively strengthened in recent updates. Once they're levelled up, go for Normal or Hard to get more EXP. After that, you'll need to pick a Level, which will cap the maximum SP that the opponents you come across will be able to reach. This expands as you play more and get your bearings, but Dynamic Level is a good place to go if you're unsure since it means the enemy level increases alongside yours. The final step of Limit Breaker Journey is the shop, which lets you buy a bunch of items that will affect your run and make things a little easier. Some of the options here are incredibly pricey, though, so be prepared to spend a bunch of Zeni if you're looking to get some bonuses. Here's every starting item, their price, and what they do. Shop Item Price Effect EXP Boost 1 10,000 Zeni Slightly increases EXP earned. Stamina Recovery Boost 12,000 Zeni Increases stamina recovered. Vengeance Seeker 20,000 Zeni If you lose, allows you to retry the battle one time. Cartographer 10,000 Zeni Adds one more destination. Final Battle Debuff 10,000 Zeni Decreases opponent's SP in Final Battle by 5. Final Battle Buff 10,000 Zeni Increases opponent's SP in Final Battle by 5. Dragon Ball Detector 15,000 Zeni Increases chances of obtaining a Dragon Ball. Power Level Boost 1 15,000 Zeni Increases your SP by 5 during battles. High Difficulty Mastery 5,000 Zeni Increases your opponent's SP to be higher than yours, but slightly increases EXP earned. Reroll 10,000 Zeni Reroll for different destination options. Can be used up to three times. It's up to you which of these is worth your Zeni, but Stamina is a massive part of this mode, so I'd recommend that with ease. Increasing the EXP earned is a good idea too, while increasing the chances of earning a Dragon Ball can be helpful if you're trying to farm them. How Limit Breaker Journey Works After a quick intro setting up your character with a mentor, Limit Breaker Journey kicks off in earnest. You'll start off with a view of the world map, which is something you'll get very used to seeing. Understanding this map is crucial to beating Limit Breaker Journey, as you need to be smart with your moves to reach Round 10 and fight the end boss. Each destination on the map has a different event, from characters to fight with varying SP levels that affect their difficulty to conversation markers that will usually unlock Battle Arts for you with unique buffs. There are even random events, ambushes, special Powerful Foes, and battles with unique conditions that are marked with an exclamation point. Battle Arts are one of the most helpful things you can get in Limit Breaker Journey, but be warned that it means missing a round and potentially getting SP points. The key thing to remember in Limit Breaker Journey is that each move you make on the map and how far you choose to travel will drain Stamina, which affects how much health you have in a fight. You ideally want to be aiming for close destinations with low-level SP enemies to start with, until you level up enough to be able to risk harder opponents at greater distances for more of an EXP boost. If you do lose a lot of stamina, keep in mind that you've got two Senzu Beans you can use to restore yourself. It's best to keep this handy as long as you can before giving in, though. Once you've picked a destination and beaten the enemy, you'll receive SP points that level up your character per level. The amount of SP points you get will depend on the opponent's level, which, of course, also dictates how tough the fight will be. These points can be poured into six different categories, ranging from boosting your health or attack power to speeding up your Ki charge. How you spend these points will determine the strengths of your character, so it's up to you whether you want to have tons of health or incredibly high attack power. Balancing them out is a clever move, though, at least when you first start out and you're only Level 1. Even as someone who has played Sparking Zero for years, I found the CPU to be very tough, so you don't want to overdo it. The final part of Limit Breaker Journey is fittingly the "Final Boss", who will appear on the map once you reach Round 10. This is the toughest fight of them all, but you can still pick the easiest option if you go for the lightest colour. After you've cleared the fight, you'll finish the mode, unlock new levels and options, and be able to do it all over again with the same or a brand new character. General Tips For Beating Limit Breaker Journey I mentioned it above, but you'll really want to start out on Easy mode in your first go of Limit Breaker Journey. Sparking Zero's most recent updates have made the CPU incredibly tough and reactive on Normal difficulty. Nothing is going to put you off the mode faster than instantly losing to a character with a low SP level just because you're on Normal. One of the most important things to remember with Limit Breaker Journey is that it's essentially a roguelite that's counting on you to die somewhere along the way. Don't be too discouraged when that happens, as you can pick the same character and keep your progress from previous runs, making your next go of things a lot easier. When you reach Round 5, you'll get a notice about even more powerful opponents appearing, before seeing a map with SP levels obscured. There's an easy way around this, though, as you can tell the enemy's power level by the colour of the question marks. Blue is the easiest, while a dark red indicates a very powerful opponent. Although Battle Arts are usually found by going to conversation markers on the map, they can sometimes be random events that award stamina, EXP, and SP levels. They're still good to visit whenever possible, but just don't count on Battle Arts specifically appearing every time. The final tip to keep in mind is your Senzu Beans. These are literal lifesavers, and you're going to want to keep them in stock for as long as possible. The best time to use them is before the Final Boss in Round 10, and before the Boss Battle at Round 5, since these are generally the toughest fights of the mode. With these, you can go as far as you want beforehand, though!
