Compact battery system handles 150% peak loads, operates below 60 dB noise level

Bulky and noisy battery energy storage systems could be a thing of the past, as a global technology company, Sigenergy, Tuesday launched its commercial and industrial battery range in Australia. The compact design has an energy density, the amount of energy stored in a system relative to the space it occupies, of more than 220 kWh/m², the company said during its official unveiling ceremony ahead of All-Energy Australia 2026. It highlighted that this capacity is much higher than traditional solutions. The latest design, the company claimed, requires only 54.5 m² of space for installation for a 4 MWh project, lowering the land requirements by more than 30% for putting together a similar storage capacity using conventional battery solutions that take up more than 80 m². ”In a 4MWh project, traditional solutions typically require over 80 m² of land, whereas the SigenCube requires only 54.5 m², successfully saving over 30% in overall footprint,” the company claimed. Less noise, robust peak performance Beyond taking up less space, these systems can operate at noise levels comparable to normal conversation, making them suitable for installation near office buildings, commercial centers, and even residential-adjacent areas, company officials said. “It stands out as the quietest commercial energy storage system available, maintaining noise levels below 60 dB at one meter, which is comparable to the ambient noise of a normal conversation,” the statement read. Apart from being space savers and noiseless, the battery energy storage systems are pegged at supporting peak power loads without the tripping. The company said that their storage system can deliver 150 percent peak power overload for up to 10 seconds to support heavy industrial machinery. ”Whether handling the sudden inrush currents of industrial air compressors, conveyor drive systems, or motor-driven centrifugal pumps, the system prevents tripping and handles load spikes effortlessly,” the statement claimed. Dynamic cooling extends life To help maintain stable and efficient peak performance over time, the system uses predictive smart thermal management. The feature optimizes cooling by monitoring real-time cell conditions and day-ahead load forecasts. It adjusts coolant temperatures before load changes occur while reducing auxiliary power consumption by up to 20 percent. This trick, while actively mitigating calendar aging, helps to extend battery life. The company further added that the system is designed to keep critical industrial loads running during grid fluctuations and power outages. It offers zero-millisecond load-side disruption during switchover, the company claimed. The design also allows the energy storage system to function as a specialized localized generator, which can reboot a completely dead grid or industrial site using its own stored energy and internal controls. ”Beyond seamless switchover, the system delivers exceptional all-around grid support, including 100% three-phase imbalance handling under complex load conditions, robust fault ride-through during voltage sags and swells, and reliable MWh-level black start without external grid support,” the company said. According to the official statement, the system can be up and running in just about three to five minutes at the site of deployment. The faster installation is being made possible by an app-based setup and factory pre-commissioning, making installation faster and easier to scale multi-megawatt projects.Get the latest in engineering, tech, space & science - delivered daily to your inbox.
