The weather has changed for the worse over the past few days and there are expected to be thundery showers between 11am and 4pm on Friday. This would clash with the penultimate morning of the track-and-field action at the Scotstoun Stadium, home to Glasgow Warriors, the rugby union team. During that time, fans are set to watch the 110 metres hurdles, discus and pole vault on day two of the men’s Decathlon. There is also qualifying for the women’s long jump plus heats for the mixed 4×400 metres relay and women’s T54 400 metres. If there is lightning, then organisers are prepared to shift around the order of events or wait until the weather eases. This would be in conjunction with World Athletics guidelines and contingency plans. For example, on Tuesday night, the women’s high jump was delayed for 90 minutes due to torrential rain. When it did eventually restart, Australian Eleanor Patterson cleared 1.96 metres, a Games record, for the gold medal, ahead of teammate Nicola Olyslagers, who only leapt over 1.93 metres. For the next few days, heavy rain is expected over the city, which might affect attendance at the athletics. A Glasgow 2026 spokeswoman said: “The weather will not dampen spirits in Glasgow. “We have no concerns regarding the Athletics and Para Athletics programme. “Competitors at the Scotstoun Stadium are delivering world-class performances. “Weather conditions are always monitored to prioritise the safety of athletes, officials, staff and spectators. “We have comprehensive plans in place if needed which we will co-ordinate with World Athletics.” Comment now
