Danish comedian Rasmus Wallbridge spent four months of his life working on a Scary Movie-style film with his friend and collaborator Martin Johannes Larsen. However, what Rasmus didn’t know was that he was secretly being filmed for a TV show called Alle elsker Rasmus (Everyone Loves Rasmus), and the film wasn’t real in a Truman Show situation brought to life. When news of the deception, which involved 149 people including Martin, went public, it sparked widespread outrage. ‘It is completely absurd and rotten that a nationwide TV station thinks it’s okay to deceive people, lie to them, and gaslight them in order to make entertainment,’ Danish celebrity chef Hannah Grant told TV 2 Echo. TV host Anna Lin meanwhile said the programme should have been called Everyone Bullies Rasmus (Alle mobber Rasmus). TV2, the station behind the show, initially dropped all six episodes of the controversial series on October 28 but has now made the decision to pull the series from streaming and apologised. ‘I would like to offer an unconditional apology to Rasmus Wallbridge and the participants in the programme Alle elsker Rasmus,’ wrote TV 2’s programme director Dorthe Thirstrup in a press release. ‘I look inward and acknowledge that my judgment has simply failed here. This is the judgment that all the participants have relied on, and I am truly sorry about that. Everyone Loves Rasmus has since been pulled from streaming (Picture: TV20) ‘It was a wrong decision to make the programme the way we did. We have not looked after Rasmus well enough, despite the considerations we had beforehand.’ The station claims that Wallbridge was given the final say on whether the show would be aired, and they say he was compensated for his work. For his part, Rasmus has remained quiet about the prank, but when TV2 initially said it could not rule out making similar series in future, he broke his silence to say, ‘I strongly urge them not to.’ TV2 has apologised to Rasmus (Picture: Rasmus Wallbridge Pedersen) Celebrities who took part in the show have also publicly apologised to Rasmus, as has Martin. ‘Rasmus is my good friend and close collaborator, and that is why I can only emphasise that I never intended to hurt him,’ Martine wrote on Instagram. ‘Have I not been attentive enough to the consequences a project like this could have? Apparently not.’ Deals of the Day QVC shoppers can save £159 on Elemis' biggest beauty gift set of the year This Hoover vacuum is a game-changer for pet owners and muddy homes The wellbeing brand behind everyone's favourite candles has launched its biggest sale yet See London's Christmas lights from an open-top double-decker bus this winter My skin always suffers when the heating goes on but this serum changed that Metro has contacted TV2 for comment.
