A COLLEGE tutor has been crowned the king of British brickies after laying 859 bricks in just one hour. Dale Wherton won the illustrious Super Trowel event, known as the “Super Bowl of bricklaying”. He got the competitive bricklaying bug at college in Stoke aged 15 before working in the industry for 20 years. And he has honed his speed skills since becoming a lecturer six months ago at West Nottinghamshire College. The dad-to-be, from Derby, said: “We have test walls with training mortar which doesn’t set, so we can put up and take down as many as we like. “I remember 20 years ago my college tutor showed me this event in Vegas and I thought I’d really love to do that. “Only one other Englishman has won it before as the Americans have dominated. “Even the world’s best boxers dream of going to Las Vegas to compete.
