Clare Martin, centre director at Westgate Oxford, commented: “The return of Russell & Bromley is brilliant news, and we’re delighted that Westgate Oxford has been chosen as one of the first locations for reopening. “Russell & Bromley has always been a popular brand among our guests and it’s a great part of our retail mix. We look forward to seeing the store reopen later this year.” It comes after the famous footwear brand was acquired by Next as part of a multi-million pound rescue deal in January 2026, with 33 stores forced to close. At the time, the fancy shoe retailer said it had suffered from falling consumer footfall, rising operating costs and challenging market conditions in recent years. This led the brand to owe around £59.3million by the time administrators were appointed, with a further £20million in losses over the course of the previous two years. The chain only closed its last remaining site which was located in Edinburgh back in July. Most read in Money Its return will spell good news for shoppers who have seen a number of their favourite brands vanish in recent years due to a tough retail landscape. Earlier this year, Claire’s Accessories collapsed into administration, closing all 154 of its standalone sites in April. Peter Alexander, the posh sleepwear brand, is closing all UK stores after citing difficult trading conditions. But in better news, Karen Millen is also set to return to the high street today, August 14 after a near seven year hiatus. The fashion brand, which has been sported by Princess Kate, shut all its remaining stores after it was bought by Boohoo after it collapsed back in 2019. Comment now
