A COLLAPSED UK pharmacy chain has axed over 100 jobs following the closure of dozens of branches. The popular chain had locations across Northampton, Guildford and Filton before it fell into trouble last year. It comes after Allied Pharmacies agreed to take over the management of over 68 of its pharmacies earlier this year after it fell into administration last December. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! But now an update from its administrators, FRP Advisory, has revealed that up to 100 staff members have since been made redundant. This comes after staff at its branch in Abingdon’s Bury Street, staged a walk-out when they were left without a pharmacist and received no update from head offices. FRP told the outlet that administrators are helping staff claim any money they are owed through the government’s Redundancy Payments Service. It comes after The Sun reported last year how staff at Jhoots Pharmacies were reportedly owed hundreds of thousands in unpaid wages. The union, Pharmacists Defence Association, claimed at the time that locum staff had not been paid wages, amounting to a staggering £670,000. Jhoots fell into administration last December owing money to creditors and the bank. Most read in Money Before the Allied takeover, there were around 153 Jhoots pharmacies.
