Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja signs an ‘awareness board’ during the ‘Dengue Awareness Street’ campaign at Annapoorna Layout in Sidhapudur on Saturday. The Coimbatore Corporation will organise dengue-prevention awareness programmes on streets across all the five zones every Saturday. The campaign, dubbed ‘Dengue Awareness Street’, aims to cover 6,959 streets in the city.Corporation Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja launched the campaign at Annapoorna Layout in Sidhapudur on Saturday (September 19).As part of it, residents were told how empty containers could become breeding sites for dengue-causing mosquitoes. A signature campaign was also organised.A mobile medical team conducted fever screening, and nilavembu drink was distributed to residents. Senior citizens distributed dengue-awareness pamphlets door-to-door, while children and women participated in a rangoli competition on dengue prevention.City Health Officer V.C. Subash Gandhi said the campaign was completely community-driven and aimed at making dengue prevention a collective effort. “We wanted to create an awareness platform where people of all age groups could come together and participate. The idea is to make residents active participants in dengue-prevention rather than limiting awareness activities to Corporation personnel,” he said.Dengue-awareness short films were screened on a large display, and a selfie point was set up as part of the campaign.Prizes were distributed to participants who created the best rangoli designs, and saplings were planted to mark the occasion.Mr. Gandhi said similar programmes would be held every Saturday across all five zones and appealed to residents to participate actively in dengue-prevention efforts.
