Coco 2 Confirms 2029 Release, Plot Details & First Look At Miguel All Grown Up

At D23, where ScreenRant was in attendance, Pixar confirmed that Coco 2 will be released in November 2029. Alongside the announcement, the first image was revealed, showing Miguel all grown up with a brand-new haircut. He's also wearing the signature guitar. In addition, Benjamin Bratt, who voiced the antagonist Ernesto de la Cruz, confirmed at the showcase that his villain will return in the sequel, which takes place years after the first movie. He revealed that Miguel will be a teenager and a "menace." The plot is that Ernesto wants revenge, causing Miguel to venture back to the Land of the Dead. However, the teenage protagonist must team up with Ernesto, and "Coco 2 "pushes Miguel to his limits." In March 2025, former Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the development of Coco 2. It was revealed at the time that Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina would return as the directors. The November release window means that the movie will come nearly 12 years after the original movie, which came to theaters on November 22, 2017. Although Pixar didn't announce the exact date, the schedule makes sense since the Day of the Dead occurs on November 1 and 2. At the end of Coco, Ernesto's crimes were exposed as the world learned about his fraud and the murder of Miguel's ancestor, Hector. A giant replica bell fell and crushed the ruined singer, but the sequel's plot details confirm that he somehow survived.
