Coast Guard jet carrying Markwayne Mullin makes emergency landing

According to audio from the cockpit, the pilot of the C-37A aircraft told the control tower, “We just lost our right engine,” and requested an emergency landing, noting that the jet only had 2 and a half hours of fuel left. On the plane, Mullin was joined by 13 other people.Following the incident on Wednesday afternoon, Mullin praised the Coast Guard pilots who landed the plane at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. “The United States Coast Guard pilots made the single-engine landing feel routine,” Mullin said. “No panic, just straight professionalism. After we landed, the pilots told me that was a first for them! We could not have been in better hands.”The Washington Examiner reached out to the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Coast Guard, for comment.The C-37A is a military model of a Gulfstream V business jet used by the Coast Guard to transport senior government officials. The Marine One pilots and DCA controllers had previously communicated concerns about radio communications being “spotty.” During the August miscommunication, helicopter pilots attempted to give a warning before taking off using two methods: directly to DCA and through Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, but neither was successful.The aircraft were never on a direct collision course, and Trump was never in immediate danger despite the miscommunication.
