I also extend my sincere gratitude to the Honourable Minister, Mr. @imrajmohan, for his dedicated and swift efforts in making this happen!”The producer further highlighted how the financial assistance could help families dependent on the film industry. “This is not merely a subsidy; it is a Diwali gift for many families associated with the film industry! 90 per cent of the beneficiaries are individuals who lost their livelihoods due to film production. There is no doubt that this support will spark a revival in their lives. On behalf of the 224 producers and their families, a million thanks!” he added. The subsidy was distributed by Minister Rajmohan at the Chepauk event. The films selected for the grant were produced between 2015 and 2022, following recommendations from a selection committee headed by retired Justice SK Krishnan, according to a report by ETV Bharat.Siva, who has backed films such as Deiva Vaakku, Aravindhan, Saroja and Aravaan under Amma Creations, called the government's decision a significant step towards supporting producers and their families. The scheme aims to encourage the production of low-budget Tamil films, particularly those that address socially relevant subjects. Speaking at the event, Rajmohan reportedly cited Bharathiraja's Karuththamma (1994), which raised awareness about female infanticide, as an example of cinema that can challenge social evils. He also praised producers who prioritise meaningful storytelling alongside commercial considerations. The minister further said that state awards for Tamil cinema would, going forward, be presented solely on the basis of merit and honesty.- Ends
