CM promises to make NIT-C partner in ‘Puthuyuga Keralam’ project

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has said that the National Institute of Technology-Calicut (NIT-C) will be a partner in the State government’s attempts to build a ‘Puthuyuga Keralam’ (New Age Keralam), which will be knowledge-based and technologically self-reliant.He was on the NIT-C campus at Chathamangalam near here on Tuesday (August 1, 2026) to deliver a lecture in memory of M.V. Kesava Rao, the first director of the institute, and also to mark its the 66th Foundation Day.Mr. Satheesan said that the NIT-C’s technical expertise and research support would be crucial in restructuring the higher education sector in the State and forming new policies in line with the changes in the global employment market. The effort would be to convert higher education as a tool for social and economic development as envisioned by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, quantum computing, and robotics were bringing in big changes in human life, Mr. Satheesan said.“We are passing through a phase when machine intelligence is predicted to overcome human intelligence. A major challenge today is that soon after students complete a course, the gathered knowledge becomes outdated. To overcome this situation, higher education institutions should revise their curricula regularly after observing the changes in the employment market,” he said.NIT-C Director Prasad Krishna, M.K.
