‘Clueless’ Sequel Series Moving Forward at Paramount+

Logo text Cher Horowitz is returning to a screen near you — this time, as a mom of a teen, rather than one herself. A sequel series to the 1995 cult classic film Clueless has found a home at Paramount+, which has greenlit the project, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The series, once again starring Alicia Silverstone as the Beverly Hills-bred Cher, will revisit the character 30 years after the events of the film and now as the owner of a successful business and a mother, who seems to have it all figured out until her daughter enters high school (cue her feeling again, well, “clueless”). Executive produced by Silverstone and the original film’s director Amy Heckerling and producer Robert Lawrence, the series will shoot on location in L.A., according to Paramount+. The original film famously shot at locations including Occidental College in the Eagle Rock neighborhood of L.A., Circus Liquor in North Hollywood and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The series will be written and executive produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (creators of The O.C. and Gossip Girl) under their Fake Empire banner along with Jordan Weiss (Freakier Friday, Dollface). “Clueless is coming home,” Paramount+ head of originals Jane Wiseman said in a statement. “Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box office hit and instant pop culture classic. We’re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews.” The project has had a twisty path. The series was previously in development at Peacock in 2025, but as of this year has been scrapped at the streamer and taken back out to market. Previously, Peacock had been developing a separate Clueless-spinoff mystery series in 2020 involving Cher disappearing and her best friend Dionne (played by Stacey Dash in the original film) investigating. The 1995 film, a then-modern adaptation of the 19th century Jane Austen classic Emma, about a spoiled teen who considers herself a consummate matchmaker, was released by Paramount Pictures. The greenlight is the latest series pickup for Paramount+, which recently has also added to its lineup Laird starring Kenneth Branagh, Discretion starring Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, Fear Not starring Anne Hathaway and 9/12 starring Jeremy Strong.
