One chocolate brand has shaken things up after 64 years (Picture: Getty Images) Since the very beginning, After Eight chocolate has been associated with one iconic flavour: mint. There have been a few spin-offs since they first hit the market in 1962, including Orange and Mint and Mojito and Mint. These were both limited edition, and, crucially, didn’t stray from the main tingly ingredient. But after 64 years, the brand has shaken things up and introduced a new version – with absolutely no mint in the mix. After Eight now comes in an orange flavour, and it’s permanent. The 200g pack retails for £4 at both Morrisons and Tesco, and if you’ve got a Clubcard for the latter, it’ll be a cheeky £2.50. They’re the same thin, chocolatey squares we know and love, but with a zesty orange fondant inside, rather than a minty kick. Last month, raspberry and caramel versions were also spotted by the UK Newest Foods Facebook page, but these aren’t currently available on supermarket shelves. Needless to say, though, fans of the classic chocolate treat, traditionally enjoyed after dinner, are already hyped up about it. Leena M Liljestrand described the orange flavour as absolute ‘heaven,’ but made a case for ‘coffee’ being added to the new, noticeably non-minty selection. They’re super sweet and perhaps not quite as punchy in orange flavour as you might expect, but you definitely can’t eat just one,’ they added. However, not everyone’s happy. Shar Law said, ‘After Eights are mint and mint only,’ while Julie Davies warned not to ‘mess’ with them. ‘Stick to the mint,’ Nicola Procter added, while Graham Ridge said ‘coffee would have been nice.’ Richard Browne said ‘After Eights are always and should always be mint. End of discussion,’ while Jakki Williamson, positively fuming at the news, warned, ‘Terry, stay in your Orange feckin’ lane and leave the classy mints alone.’ She added: ‘They’ve never needed your help to digest a meal.’ For years, they’ve been associated with a post-dinner treat (Picture: After Eight) Other chocolate news While many people won’t want to think about December 25 until Halloween has come and gone, others have already started stocking up for the holidays. Yes, even though it’s only September. And there’s one festive item shoppers are keen to get their hands on now to avoid missing out closer to the time. The Big Mix at Marks & Spencer went viral last year, after people claimed the chocolate tin was ‘better than Quality Street’ and it looks set to be just as popular in 2026. The Big Mix from M&S costs £7 for a 650g carton or £12 for a 1.2kg tin and features a mix of 10 different sweets in colourful wrappers, suitable for vegetarians. The selection includes Salted Caramel, Coffee Truffle, Hazelnut in Caramel, Cream Toffee, Milk Crème, Caramel Fudge, Strawberry Crème, Orange Crème, Biscuit in Caramel and a Butterscotch Éclair. Elsewhere, Lindt has introduced a new flavour of chocolate truffle, and it’s based on a classic baked treat: the Cinnamon Roll. Lindt describes it as a seasonal flavour, comprised of biscuit pieces in a smooth milk shell, plus a milk filling with natural cinnamon.
