If this is the first you’re hearing about these collections, it’s because Sega hasn’t really mentioned them, even though they’re a pretty big deal. Two Unannounced Sonic Collections There are two collections: one for 3D Sonic games and another featuring three 2D side-scrollers. Well, technically a lot more than three, since one of the games included in the collection is Sonic Origins. Origins was one of the last Sonic collections released and, like so many others before it, just includes the original games released on the Genesis. Sonic CD being in there was a welcome change, though. The Modern Collection bundles Sonic Forces, Colors Ultimate, and Frontiers together, while the Classic Collection gets you Origins, Sonic Mania, and Sonic Superstars. No official announcement from Sega, but both collections are available to pre-order now at PNP Games. Each collection costs $50.99, and they’ll both be released on October 20, 2026, according to the listings. The collections are only available on Nintendo Switch through PNP. That doesn’t mean they won’t be released on other platforms when pre-orders start cropping up elsewhere. The Collections Were Kind Of Revealed During Sonic's Birthday Livestream Even though Sega hasn’t officially said anything about these collections, they were briefly mentioned during a livestream celebrating Sonic’s 35th anniversary. The stream was hosted by YouTubers, one of whom mentioned the collections in a passing comment. They said we’d hear more about them later on in the show, but we never did. That suggests the host maybe wasn’t supposed to say anything. Strange, and even stranger that Sega isn’t flaunting these collections at every available opportunity. The only Sonic collections we tend to get are the same four original Genesis games bundled up and re-released every time we get a new generation of consoles. To have collections that pull different titles from Sonic history is a welcome change. The only downside is these collections still don’t include some of the older Sonic games that came directly after the Genesis era. The Sonic Adventure games are beloved to this day, and a collection that combines the two feels like something Sega could do with relative ease that would sell incredibly well. The games have survived Sega’s multiple mass delistings of its old games, so you can still buy and play them on Steam, but they’ve not been available on consoles since the PS3/Xbox 360 era.
