ChromeOS isn't dead yet, as Google says it'll support it until 2034

A little while ago, Google shook up the scene by announcing it would no longer produce ChromeOS devices. Instead, it was moving toward Googlebooks, which trades the Chromebook's affordability for raw on-board AI processing power. Fortunately, there is good news for Chromebook fans, as the company has revealed that it will continue supporting ChromeOS for another eight years. ChromeOS will continue getting updates until 2034 There's a lot of life in your Chromebooks yet Google announced the end-of-support date for ChromeOS on its Chrome Enterprise and Education Help webpage (via Engadget). Titled "What the Googlebook announcement means for your ChromeOS devices," Google explains what Chromebook owners can expect now that the Googlebook is taking over its spotlight. It's pretty much all good news; Google will continue to honor its support plan, and people can continue using their Chromebooks like they always have. In fact, Google says some of the newer Chromebook devices will get an upgrade to Googlebook OS, with details coming soon. However, if you scroll to the FAQ section of the article and expand the part that reads "How should this announcement impact our current hardware purchasing and refresh plans?", you find this little nugget: "ChromeOS devices will continue to receive regular updates and security patches through mid-2034. For qualifying devices purchased today whose 10-year support lifecycle extends beyond 2034, Google is committed to supporting your transition to Googlebook OS, with many devices offering direct migration paths." It's good to see that Google will continue to support ChromeOS, even after it threw out the Chromebook line to focus on its Googlebooks. It's a good indicator for anyone thinking of buying a Googlebook, at any rate.
