Clemson quarterback Christopher Vizzina is listed as probable on the initial ACC availability report for Friday’s game against Cal. He is recovering from an elbow injury ahead of the conference matchup. Vizzina went down with the injury in Clemson’s Week 2 game against Georgia Southern and did not play in last week’s matchup against North Carolina. Tait Reynolds got the start in the Tigers’ comeback victory over the Tar Heels, which came amid a weather delay. $19.99 gets you a FULL year of On3 | Rivals national coverage Vizzina’s injury was to his non-throwing elbow, and the expectation was he’d miss 1-2 weeks as a result, as On3’s Pete Nakos reported. He is the only player listed as probable for Clemson on Tuesday’s initial availability report. Ahead of the matchup against North Carolina, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney confirmed Reynolds would enter the ACC opener as the starting quarterback. As for when Vizzina got hurt against Georgia Southern, he said it happened during the first half of the Week 2 victory. Watch on Fubo (Try for Free) “He just took a hit in the first half,” Swinney told reporters. “He couldn’t feel his left arm very well. I didn’t know it either until we were getting ready to put him back in. There is an area we have to protect on his left arm.” Christopher Vizzina was Clemson’s starting quarterback for the season opener against LSU, but the Tigers struggled mightily in the 51-10 loss. He went 10-for-16 for 83 yards in the effort, along with an interception. Prior to his injury against Georgia Southern, he completed 4-of-7 passes for 19 yards and a touchdown, to one pick. Speaking with reporters this week ahead of the matchup against Cal, Swinney said Vizzina was still working to get full movement back in his arm. However, the Clemson quarterback started to look better during practice, and Swinney added Reynolds is feeling good, as well. “Tait is good,” Swinney said Tuesday. “He’s good to go. They’re all sore. Coaches wake up sore after a game like that. It’s just part of it. He’s a tough kid. CV is better. He took some reps yesterday. It’s just getting full movement back. It’s being able to turn and push the ball, load the ball and he wants to have confidence to move his arm without pain. He has gotten a lot better. It’s minute by minute and day by day.” Clemson and Cal will close out Friday night’s primetime slate of games on ESPN. The two teams will square off at 11 p.m. ET as the Week 4 slate of college football officially gets underway.
