Chittoor police launch drive against overloaded vehicles carrying schoolchildren

Police counsel an autorickshaw driver after he was found transporting school children in an overloaded vehicle in Chittoor on Wednesday. | Photo Credit: ARRANGEMENT The Chittoor district police on Wednesday launched a special drive against overloaded vehicles transporting schoolchildren.Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi said that student safety cannot be compromised under any circumstances. “Special inspections will be carried out across the district to ensure strict compliance with road safety and transport regulations,” he said.He said that traffic police were closely monitoring private autos, vans and other vehicles transporting students to educational institutions.As part of the drive, the traffic police led by Circle-Inspector (CI) Nitya Babu, counselled private auto drivers found violating permitted passenger limits, cautioning that such negligence could endanger innocent lives.Mr. Tushar Dudi said that transporting students beyond the authorised seating capacity was a serious violation of the Motor Vehicles Act and will invite stringent legal action. “Fines, registration of cases and other penal measures will be initiated against habitual or wilful offenders,” the SP said.The SP appealed to the parents to remain vigilant and ensure that their children travel only in safe and legally compliant vehicles. “The public are also requested to promptly report instances of overloading or unsafe transportation practices to the police.
