Geely Auto Group has introduced a new integrated electric drive system that combines 16 core propulsion functions into a single 165-pound (75-kilogram) package, aiming to improve efficiency, thermal performance, and vehicle packaging. The system will make its production debut in the upcoming Geely TT electric sedan and serves as the automaker’s latest push to simplify electric powertrain design without sacrificing performance. The announcement also comes with a notable efficiency claim. During testing around China’s Qinghai Lake, the Geely TT recorded energy consumption of 8.20 kWh per 100 kilometers (62 miles), earning a Guinness World Records title for the lowest energy consumption achieved by a mass-produced battery-electric sedan on the route. Compact integrated architecture Instead of relying on multiple standalone modules, Geely consolidated the electric drive’s major hardware and control functions into a single unit. Engineers designed the package around an 800-volt electrical architecture, allowing the complete system to weigh just 165 pounds (75 kilograms). The reduced mass and shorter power transmission path help minimize electrical losses before power reaches the wheels. Geely says the integrated design also frees up vehicle space, giving engineers greater flexibility when developing future electric models. Developed with support from Geely ecosystem partner InfiMotion, the drive system reaches a claimed 93.8% comprehensive efficiency under China’s CLTC testing cycle. The company credits intelligent power optimization software alongside several manufacturing improvements for the result. Performance beyond efficiency Efficiency was only part of the engineering target. The new electric drive also supports dual-motor all-wheel-drive layouts capable of producing a combined 570 horsepower (425 kilowatts). In that configuration, Geely says compatible vehicles can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.8 seconds. Engineers also focused on maintaining consistent performance under sustained loads. A newly developed 54-channel directional cooling system lowers peak motor temperatures by as much as 27 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius). Active lubrication for the shafts and gear assembly further helps manage heat during demanding operation. Geely says the system targets a service life of 3.1 million miles (5 million kilometers) after completing validation across individual components, the integrated drive unit, and full-vehicle testing. Record attempts validate system The company also used public performance demonstrations to showcase the drive system’s durability and control. Alongside the efficiency record, the Geely TT completed more than 28.6 miles (46 kilometers) of continuous twin-vehicle drifting on a wet surface, securing another Guinness World Records title. According to Geely, the demonstration placed sustained demands on torque control, thermal management and power delivery, providing a real-world stress test beyond laboratory conditions. Li Chuanhai, vice president of Geely Auto Group and president of the Geely Automobile Research Institute, said electric drive technology is becoming increasingly important as battery-powered vehicles mature. He said the new system strengthens Geely’s in-house capabilities in electric powertrain development and intelligent vehicle control.The 16-in-1 Intelligent E-Drive will first appear in the Geely TT, giving the company an opportunity to demonstrate whether its compact integrated design can translate laboratory efficiency into everyday driving.
