In response to remarks made by the "Taiwan representative in Japan," the Chinese Embassy in Japan said on Monday that Taiwan is not a country and there is no such thing as "national dignity" for it.A spokesperson for the embassy said that there is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. This is the prevailing consensus in the international community.Taiwan officials recently attending an atomic boming memorial ceremony in Japan have complained about Taiwan's "national dignity" being deliberately downgraded, after their seats were placed outside the diplomat delegation area. The Chinese embassy spokesperson said that by overreaching itself to grab attention everywhere, Taiwan will only bring disgrace to itself. The spokesperson also noted that the only reference to the Taiwan region at the United Nations is "Taiwan, Province of China."(Cover: A file photo of the Chinese Embassy in Japan. /CMG) Source(s): Xinhua News Agency
