Jitendra Kumar Dayama, Superintendent of Police, Chikkamagaluru, said he had instructed the police to prepare a database of migrant workers in the district. | Image for representation | Photo Credit: LAMONTAK590623 The Chikkamagaluru police on Monday (August 4) detained five illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who were working as daily wage labourers at an estate near Bankal in Mudigere taluk.The police identified the immigrants while verifying documents of migrant workers at the estate and recovered Bangladesh National Identification Cards (NID cards) from them.Jitendra Kumar Dayama, Superintendent of Police, Chikkamagaluru, said he had instructed the police to prepare a database of migrant workers in the district. “There are many estates and resorts in the district, and many people come here to work from different places. For the last two months, the police have been conducting a drive to document migrant workers,” he said.Those detained include single individuals as well as those with family members, he said, adding that the police were investigating to identify the agents or contractors who had brought them there.Mr. Dayama said the police were collecting photographs, documents and other relevant information from the migrant workers at the station level.
