Chicago Med season 12 recently premiered on NBC, as the One Chicago world came back to audiences on October 7, with all of the fan-favorite cast members set to return. That includes Oliver Platt as Dr. Daniel Charles, S. Epatha Merkerson as Sharon Goodwin, Darren Barnet as Dr. John Frost, Luke Mitchell as Dr. Mitch Ripley, Jessy Schram as Dr. Hannah Asher, Sarah Ramos as Dr. Caitlin Lenox, and Steven Weber as Dr. Dean Archer. But there will be another familiar face dropping by, with PEOPLE revealing that Colin Donnell will reprise his role as Dr. Connor Rhodes in season 12. The news, which was accompanied by a photo (included below) of Rhodes and Goodwin sharing a moment, reveals that O'Donnell will appear in two episodes, beginning with the show's finale on December 9th. This marks Donnell's first Chicago Med appearance since he left the series at the start of season 5. It will take shape when Goodwin reaches out to him for help with a young heart patient who needs a complicated and risky surgery. It comes after Rhodes' own complicated departure from the popular procedural, which was put into motion when Connor became a suspect after his wealthy father was murdered. ChronoLogic Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order. It was ultimately revealed that Dr. Rhodes' ex, Dr. Ava Bekker (played by Norma Kuhling), killed his father hoping that the loss would bring them together. No such luck. After he learned the truth, things took an even darker turn, and Bekker ultimately took her own life. The saga took its toll on Dr. Rhodes, understandably feeling like he had to try for a fresh start somewhere else. Since his time as part of the One Chicago universe, Donnell has had roles in series like FBI: International and Zero Day. He also had a Broadway run as part of the Ragtime cast. His long-awaited return means that he'll get to spend time not only with Merkerson and Pratt, two of the last remaining Chicago Med originals. Dr. Rhodes' comeback, however brief, is a wish fulfilled for showrunner and executive producer Allen MacDonald. It's only a nice bit of continuity for fans, especially with actors such as Brian Tee, Yaya DaCosta, John Earl Jelks, Dominic Rains, Nick Gehlfuss, and Marlyne Barrett all recently stepping away from Chicago Med to varying degrees.
