The ruling came in a 2002 case that traced the passport application to his alias Vijaya Kadam.A Chennai CBI court convicted Chhota Rajan for obtaining an Indian passport with forged documents.A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Chennai on Thursday convicted gangster Chhota Rajan and sentenced him to seven years' imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining an Indian passport by submitting forged documents.The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 55,000 after convicting him of cheating, forgery, cheating by personation, and knowingly submitting false documents to obtain a passport.According to the CBI, Chhota Rajan, also known as Vijaya Kadam, Rajendra and Nana, is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in New Delhi, where he is already serving a life sentence.The CBI had registered the case against him on March 19, 2002, alleging that he had applied for and obtained a passport by submitting forged documents, thereby cheating the Regional Passport Office in Chennai. The investigation found that Rajan applied for an Indian passport in the name of "Vijaya Kadam" by submitting false documents, including a school transfer certificate, ration card and demand draft (DD).The probe further revealed that the real identity behind the name "Vijaya Kadam" was Rajendra alias Nana alias Chhota Rajan, son of Sadashiv and a resident of Mumbai. According to the CBI, he impersonated Vijaya Kadam and dishonestly obtained the passport from the Regional Passport Office in Chennai by submitting forged documents as proof of age and residence before using the passport as genuine. After completing the investigation, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Chhota Rajan on January 22, 2004.
