Chhattisgarh cops recover 200 missing phones worth Rs 40 lakh in major drive

The Cyber Cell traced the phones using CEIR, technical tracking and inter-state coordination; police are now working to recover 3,000 more missing phones.Durg Police recovered 200 missing mobile phones worth around Rs 40 lakh and returned them to their rightful owners.Chhatisgarh Police in Durg have recovered 200 mobile phones reported missing from different police station areas of the district and returned them to their rightful owners as part of an initiative aimed at strengthening social policing. The recovered mobile phones have an estimated total value of around Rs 40 lakh.Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vijay Agrawal handed over the recovered mobile phones to their rightful owners during a programme organised in Bhilai.According to Durg Police, the district Cyber Cell and police from the concerned police stations conducted technical analysis of each missing-mobile-phone case after receiving the complaints.The police traced the phones through the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal, technical tracking, coordination with telecom service providers and coordination with police units in other states and districts. The police safely recovered the phones and handed them over to their rightful owners after completing all necessary legal procedures. SSP Vijay Agrawal said the police recovered around 200 mobile phones worth Rs 40 lakh. He said the phones had gone missing at different times and the police recovered them through a continuous campaign conducted over one month. He said the police have a list of 3,000 more mobile phones and will work on recovering them and returning them to their holders in the coming period.Agrawal urged citizens to provide information about a missing mobile phone on the CEIR portal, saying this helps police trace it. He also appealed to mobile-phone users to follow cybersecurity practices. He said every person is living in the internet era and using banking services, making cybersecurity essential. Durg Police appealed to citizens to immediately report a lost or stolen mobile phone to the concerned police station, Cyber Cell or through the CEIR portal.
