Chelsea ‘on brink of Pep Chavarria transfer with agreement set to be reached for Rayo star to travel for medical’

CHELSEA are on the brink of securing a deal with Rayo Vallecano to sign Pep Chavarria, according to reports. And now the left-back is expected to be given permission to travel for a medical. Now it is a case of the final elements of the transfer terms being ironed out before the move can progress. No hiccups are expected once the final fee has finally been decided upon. Chavarria, 28, is under contract in Madrid until 2030 but does have a reported £42.8million release clause. So that will pave the way for Chavarria to have his medical and be confirmed as the latest Blues signing. Left-back is a major priority for Xabi Alonso. The sale of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid left Jorrel Hato as the only recognised senior left-back at the club – although 18-year-old Landon Emenalo has featured in pre-season. Chavarria joined Rayo Vallecano in 2022 and has played 125 times for the club, including in the Conference League final. Rayo lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace in Leipzig. Chelsea have already signed eight new players this summer – for more than £300m. That includes a record £117m on Morgan Rogers and £52m on Palace defender Maxence Lacroix.
