Within seconds of the tackle on Cubarsi – the 19-year-old practically landing a front flip upon slamming into the turf – referee Slavko Vincic had shown Fernandez his second yellow. The Argentina star protested his innocence but was sent trudging back to the dressing room as only the sixth player in history to be dismissed in a World Cup final.
