A medical is scheduled to go ahead on Monday upon his return from the World Cup. Rogers is said to have been impressed by new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso‘s vision for the club. He will become the Spaniard’s second signing as boss, with Marco Palestra having joined in a £43m deal from Atalanta. The Blues’ squad is also set to be bolstered by the arrivals of Emmanuel Emegha and Geovany Quenda, albeit with those transfers having been completed prior to Alonso’s arrival. Rogers joined Villa in February 2024 from Middlesbrough – who are set to receive a huge windfall from his Chelsea switch. Boro have already received £16m from Villa for the initial transfer fee and subsequent add-ons, having bought Rogers for just £1.5m from Manchester City. Rogers played 125 times for Villa, scoring 31 goals and laying on 29 assists. He memorably helped the club to Europa League glory last season, featuring in every match and grabbing a goal and an assist in the final. Rogers’ move will see him link up with several former Man City academy team-mates. Liam Delap and Cole Palmer featured in the same age group as Rogers at City, with the latter even sharing a celebration with him. The 21-cap star has been an England regular since breaking into the squad in 2024. He has been in action in North America this summer and started the Three Lions’ agonising semi-final defeat to Argentina on Wednesday. Rogers could be in action tonight, as England take on France in the third place play-off. Comment now
