Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business is making two changes. One of them is pretty valuable. Effective November 15, 2026, the 3x earn category for social media and search engine advertising purchases is being capped at $1 million per account anniversary year. (Spend above that reverts to 1 point per dollar.) I have to think there were a small number of businesses hitting this category very hard. Starting January 1, 2027 they’re doubling the annual statement credit to $1,000 for The Edit hotel bookings. Instead of (2) $250 credits per year on stays of two nights or longer, the card will offer (4) $250 credits. There are no changes to the consumer Sapphire Reserve card. My view is that for most cardmembers, this amounts to a net positive. It’s an additional $500 in credits, and I’ve found them easy to use. I’ll often use them on two-night stays at sub-$300 hotels, and included benefits cover breakfast and a $100 property credit also. I’d gladly take this on the consumer side. A small number of customers who were likely costing Chase a lot of money will be unhappy with the social media ad spend changes. I have to think that if this was merely rounding error for the portfolio then Chase wouldn’t bother with this change. It’s still a valuable accelerator category, and $1 million is a high spend threshold for most. Topics on this page
