Based on a motorcycle gang embedded in organized crime, the FX show thrived due to its gritty violence and heartbreaking twists, yet its upcoming spinoff is ditching all of this, despite the cast reuniting. While Mayans M.C. embodied many of the traits that made fans fall in love with Sons of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam's new project is going in a completely new direction, as Legends will see the stars of Sons of Anarchy return, but not in the roles we know them and love. Whereas something like Steven Saves the Universe has brought OG Big Bang Theory stars as alternate versions of their respective characters, Legends will see the Sons of Anarchy actors return as fictional versions of themselves, meaning Charlie Hunnam will play Charlie Hunnam, not Jax Teller. With so many of the original stars signing on to play themselves, Sons of Anarchy will undergo a genre change in Legends, which is set to be far more meta. The exact premise follows these stars reuniting at a fan convention where the lines between reality and fiction start to blur, resulting in them taking on their greatest threat yet. Despite Sons of Anarchy's Kurt Sutter not being involved, we can expect plenty of references to the beloved crime show, giving fans a reason to tune into this spinoff. Not only does Legends have an interesting and unique hook to draw SOA fans in, but this concept could be borrowed by plenty of franchises, which may change TV forever. Sons Of Anarchy Found The Perfect Way To Revive Beloved Shows Even before Mayans M.C. came to an end, Sons of Anarchy fans were desperate for some sort of follow-up, be it a show about Jax's sons, a continuation involving the surviving members, or even a prequel centering around SAMCRO's original nine members. Instead, the series came up with something far more revolutionary that could even create a brand-new genre. The biggest hurdle regarding a true Sons of Anarchy comeback was all the dead characters, as it would've prevented many fan favorites from returning, immediately lowering interest. Now though, any original actor interested in returning will surely be a part of Legends, showing how other shows could also revive themselves. Any series with a stacked cast can easily come back through this format, and while a one-season run may work best, this concept could evolve into an anthology show. Fans fell in love with Sons of Anarchy due to the camaraderie and chemistry the actors shared on-screen, making a premise like this just as interesting as a fictional setting. Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi are all confirmed to return for Legends. Regardless of whether it's a show that wrapped up in the last year or several decades ago, so long as the stars are interested and willing to reunite, the premise of Legends could be borrowed by so many other franchises. Obviously, the exact story may differ, but the idea of actors playing themselves alongside former co-stars is truly brilliant and should work wonders. How Legends turns out will ultimately determine whether this idea catches on, but if the thriller series can successfully replace Sons of Anarchy despite being so different, it could become a true pioneer. Hopefully, this spinoff can stick the landing, as there are countless shows that would benefit from this kind of revival. There really is no end to the number of TV shows that could benefit from following Sons of Anarchy's Legends formula, but there are some standout candidates. The first that comes to mind is Breaking Bad. Having already produced one of the greatest spinoffs of all time and a solid follow-up movie, there isn't really anywhere else for the franchise to go. However, we've still seen the likes of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul reunite for commercials in-character, highlighting the legacy they left behind. Add in the likes of Bob Odenkirk, Anna Gunn, Giancarlo Esposito, and all the other original characters, and a Breaking Bad spinoff akin to Legends could be both engrossing and hilarious, given the array of comedic talent involved. The Walking Dead could be another great pick, as despite the fact that the franchise is still ongoing, many actors have been gone for years due to their characters being killed off. With rumors of a Walking Dead crossover show already floating around, a spinoff reuniting the actors where they play themselves could be a genius warm-up. Both Supernatural and The Boys could also be great options for this kind of concept, as they were largely carried by their stellar casts and guest stars, who often brought real chemistry. With Erick Kripke open to weird and wonderful ideas, either one of these shows returning in this format would definitely be welcomed, despite operating in different eras. While they would feel a little stranger since some key cast members are missing, the likes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Friends could be nostalgic in this regard, while Lost would also benefit from this kind of revival after so many years. In truth, really any show looking to make a comeback — even if only for a short period — could use Legends' concept so long as the cast is strong enough, proving how significant the Sons of Anarchy spinoff may be to the entire industry.
