Charity makes the ultimate sacrifice in Emmerdale using Todd’s dead body in grim way

Major ew… (Picture: ITV/Metro) The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated August 10. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX and YouTube. So, we all knew that the demon doctor of the Dales, bullying rapist Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) wasn’t long for this world and that someone would leave her stone cold on the floor with a pool of blood surrounding her head, but we didn’t know who or how. That all changed yesterday, when we saw Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) shove rotten Todd toward the door, causing her to trip, fall, and bash her bonce on a table before breathing her last on the floor of Jacob’s Fold. Having entered as the final showdown between Todd and the victim of her vicious campaign, Sarah’s grandma Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), was reaching a climax, Sarah was visibly sickened to learn that Todd had violated Charity so disgracefully, and combined with the torture she inflicted on her husband Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) at work, she could barely contain her rage. Demanding Todd leave after she smugly branded Charity a liar, Sarah demanded she get out and shoved her, accidentally ensuring that Todd wouldn’t be going anywhere in a hurry, or ever again, for that matter. In today’s single strand episode, the fallout was immediate, as Sarah desperately tried to resuscitate Todd, performing CPR on her lifeless body, until Charity stopped her in the absolute absence of either a pulse or a heartbeat. Sarah struggled to comprehend what she’d done (Picture: ITV/YouTube) Todd was definitely dead. Like, majorly dead. As Sarah vomited, grandma and granddaughter panicked, desperately trying to come up with an answer. While Charity initially favoured ringing the police, Sarah’s terror at the prospect of serving a life sentence for murder forced Charity to re-think, and she settled on disposing of the body in one of Noah’s old sleeping bags. Before they could carry out their grim operation, though, the door went and in walked Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy), her face instantly twisting into one of pure horror upon discovering Todd’s corpse. Perfect timing, Serena (Picture: ITV/YouTube) Sarah and Charity peppered her with attempts to cover up what happened, but Serena demanded the truth; without it, she’d call the police instantly. After hearing exactly what happened, Serena agreed to help and began to construct a story for them to tell the police. Charity went off-script, though, ringing the police and lying that she’d been the one to kill Todd. As Sarah desperately argued with Charity, determined to not let her take the fall for her own mistake, Serena was infuriated that Charity had deviated from the plan so early, before softening to Charity’s further pleas for help. Okay… (Picture: ITV/YouTube) …this bit was gross (Picture: ITV/YouTube) In a truly stomach churning moment, she put on a pair of marigolds and used Todd’s hand to inflict a scratch mark on Charity’s arm to bolster their claim of self-defence. With the police en route, Serena attempted to make good on her own escape, after warning Charity and Sarah to omit her name entirely from what’d happened in the cottage. Before fleeing, though, she warned them both that they were about to face a million questions and that the coming months would be incredibly tough. Serena warned them how hard things would be (Picture: ITV/YouTube) With Todd growing colder on the floor, Charity and Sarah sat, side by side, on the couch, as Sarah pleaded with her grandma to promise her that this would all be a distant memory soon. Reaffirming their unconditional love for each other, the sirens began to drown out their words. The police finally arrived and they were forced to face the terrifying road ahead.
