Charity and Dr Todd’s long-awaited showdown explodes in Emmerdale as the vile attacker takes action

Charity Dingle tries to take control (Picture: ITV) I think most of us can say the moment rapist Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) gets that smug smile slapped off her face is one we’ve been waiting for in Emmerdale. And here it comes – not a literal slap, admittedly, but a proverbial one will do as she has met her match in Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins). Emma promised us a juicy showdown – ‘there’s some kind of retribution and justice in its own way’ – and oh boy does she deliver. We already knew it would be meaty, having spotted a clip of Todd lying in a pool of blood. But it’s the journey that’s getting us excited. Things have been looking a bit bleak for Charity, with the legal case hitting a brick wall. The police can’t do anything due to lack of evidence, and her ordeal is considered sexual assault as, in the eyes of the law, it doesn’t count as rape. Charity was initially completely floored by this, and a trip to a support group only served to make it worse when Charity found she couldn’t relate to anyone because their attackers had all been men. With the help of Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), Charity managed to track down another Todd victim, Helen, but she refused to take a stand against the wicked Doc, leaving Charity at a loss. But Charity is not one to give up and is in fact getting back on her feet. She decides to return to the support group. It’s a great move, the facilitator finally helps her see that the guilt she feels does not belong to her, it should be held by her perpetrator. Charity heads home, empowered, but she’s confronted by Todd waiting for her in Jacobs Fold. Unbeknownst to Todd, she hasn’t caught Charity on a bad day. Quite the opposite, and Charity is ready to tackle her head on. Charity demands Todd leave, but nope, Todd thinks she holds the cards here and holds firm. She tries to goad charity and threatens legal action. But she’s in for a satisfying surprise. Charity demands a confession. One more showdown (Picture: ITV) Todd thinks she has an ace up her sleeve, threatening to tell Sarah about Leyla, but she’s underestimated Charity, who will stop at nothing to protect her family. The confrontation escalates, and Charity screams at Todd that she’s a rapist. Todd’s quietly realising that Charity will not go down without a fight.
