The new staircase will make it easier for fans heading to the upper section of the stand, while also being an extra fire escape. Plans state that the all-weather structure will be covered in “sympathetic” black metal cladding – and the inside will feature Burnley’s usual Claret red. But the Championship side may have to dig a little deeper before they start work with a large layer of coal sitting beneath the stadium. Burnley Council attached a condition to its approval following consultation with the Coal Mining Authority over concerns about the stability of the ground. It is the LATEST change planned at Turf Moor, following proposals for new LED signage around the outside of the ground on Harry Potts Way. And it comes alongside a more controversial traffic scheme which would allow the club to temporarily close several roads around Turf Moor to manage matchday crowds. But nearby families have made their fears known about how the measures could leave them “isolated”. Alaster Hirst was one local that told the BBC that closing the road would leave him feeling “locked in”. He said: “But it’s not just that. What if there’s an accident? “What happens with all the food deliveries? The parcels?” Burnley got off to a flying start in the first round of the Carabao Cup, pipping Notts County to a place in the second round.
