Chai, samosa, ride to metro for detained protesters: Delhi Police shares video

As protests demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation continued in Delhi, videos of police personnel detaining demonstrators drew attention for reasons beyond the arrests. At Bawana Stadium, where protesters were taken into custody, the Delhi Police made arrangements for refreshments, including tea, samosas and water bottles, while also helping them find transport home.According to details shared by the police, ACP Gaurav, a 2024-batch IPS officer who led the efforts at Bawana Stadium, oversaw arrangements to provide refreshments to the detained protesters. Women demonstrators and their companions were offered drop-off facilities to Rithala Metro station, while DTC buses were arranged to help male protesters return home. The arrangements also sparked light-hearted slogans among the protesters, with some chanting, “Ek chai, do samosa, Dilli Police par poora bharosa” (One tea, two samosas, complete faith in Delhi Police).Another slogan heard was, “Loktantra ki karoge raksha, Delhi Police parhai bharosa” (If you protect democracy, we trust Delhi Police). YOUTUBER CHHOTA CHETAN'S DETENTION VIDEO GOES VIRALMeanwhile, another video of YouTuber Nikhil Verma, popularly known as Chhota Chetan, being carried away by a Rapid Action Force (RAF) official during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) demonstrations in Delhi has gone viral for an unexpectedly amusing exchange between the two.The officer’s gentle manner of detaining the YouTuber and their casual conversation prompted social media users to describe the interaction as “pookie” behaviour, a slang expression often used online to describe someone as endearing or affectionate. Nikhil was detained near Connaught Place on Saturday as police personnel moved to control the demonstrations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. In a video shared on his Instagram account, Nikhil can be seen running through the lanes of Connaught Place as police officers chase him. An RAF official eventually catches up with him, picks him up and carries him away.Taking the situation in his stride, Nikhil says, “Finally police ne pakad liya” (The police have finally caught me).The RAF official joins in on the light-hearted exchange, asking Nikhil, “Tu bada viral ho raha hai na” (You’re going really viral, aren’t you?).The interaction continues as the officer puts him down and turns towards his colleagues with a smile, saying, “Detain hogaya ye toh” (This one has been detained). The video has garnered attention online for the contrast between the tense atmosphere surrounding the protests and the seemingly relaxed exchange between the YouTuber and the RAF official.- Ends
