(File photo)Newdelhi,Oct 8, 2026 03:06 ISTThe Centre has approved a Rs 65-crore project for a GIS-based survey and mapping of unauthorised colonies in Delhi to help residents get property ownership rights under the PM-UDAY scheme, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday.Along with the Delhi Revenue and Imaging Survey, Spatial Technology Initiative (DRISHTI), PM-UDAY cells will be set up in 13 districts and at the headquarters to speed up the registration of properties in unauthorised colonies. Gupta said the approval would give fresh momentum to the PM-UDAY scheme. The Delhi government is implementing the PM-UDAY, or Pradhan Mantri-Unauthorized Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana, to provide property rights to residents of more than 1,500 unauthorised colonies across the capital.According to the Delhi Chief Minister's Office, the GIS survey is required under the scheme to verify, map and authenticate property boundaries and geo-coordinates within Delhi's notified unauthorised colonies. The Centre has approved the project under DRISHTI to develop a modern geo-spatial survey and mapping system in Delhi. The CMO said the technology-driven survey would make property mapping more transparent, systematic and time-bound. The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 65 crore, of which Rs 52 crore, or 80 per cent, will be provided as a grant from the Urban Development Fund of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The remaining Rs 13 crore will be contributed by the Delhi government's revenue department, which will be responsible for implementing the project. The initiative is also expected to make the mapping and documentation process related to properties under the PM-UDAY scheme more systematic and time-bound. Summing up the significance of the move, Gupta said the PM-UDAY scheme was 'not merely a process of issuing property-related documents' but also an important means of providing legal security over homes and property rights to lakhs of families living in Delhi's unauthorised colonies.- Ends
