Centre urges Nagari powerloom units to register on new TSRS portal by September 30

Commissioner for Textiles, Government of India, Vrunda Manohar Desai, inaugurating the one-day workshop on TSRS portal for powerloom units at Nagari in Chittoor district on Tuesday. | Photo Credit: BY ARRANGEMENT The Centre has urged powerloom units in Nagari to register on the revamped Textile Statistical Returns System (TSRS) portal by September 30 and file prescribed returns on time, stressing that reliable data is crucial for shaping government policy and allocating benefits.Commissioner for Textiles, Government of India, Vrunda Manohar Desai, made the appeal on Tuesday at a workshop attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles and the Department of Handlooms and Textiles from Guntur, and representatives of powerloom associations and weavers of Nagari town in Chittoor district.The Central official said that as per records, Nagari in Chittoor district had around 3,438 powerloom units operating nearly 13,000 looms, besides 34 sizing and 50 dyeing units, famous for cotton churidar and shirting fabric.“The textile sector in India contributes about 2.3% to India’s GDP, 13% of industrial production and nearly 12% of exports, while providing direct employment to more than 4.5 crore people,” Ms. Desai said.State Commissioner (Handlooms and Textiles) G. Rekha Rani said that in Andhra Pradesh, 1,861 weavers received in-situ upgradation assistance under PowerTex India, while 14,942 candidates were trained and 12,157 were placed under Samarth.She said that the TSRS portal would enable cotton trading, ginning and pressing, spinning and allied units to submit monthly and annual statistical returns online. “Registration provides a permanent TUID, mandatory for availing Ministry schemes. Timely data would ensure Nagari’s requirements are reflected in future policy decisions and allocations,” she said.Meanwhile, the representatives of the powerloom industry in Nagari urged the officials to consider processing subsidies and loans for the powerloom sector in a time-bound manner.
