Central Integrity Court sentences MP Alia Nassif to seven years for illicit gains

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s Central Anti-Corruption Criminal Court sentenced sitting lawmaker Alia Nassif Jasim to seven years of imprisonment on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, after convicting her of illicit enrichment and ordering the restitution of over 61 billion Iraqi dinars alongside an equivalent financial fine. According to an official statement issued by the Federal Commission of Integrity, the judicial ruling was delivered in person under the provisions of Article 19, Paragraph 2, of the amended Commission of Integrity and Illicit Gains Law No. 30 of 2011. The judicial ruling mandates that the convicted parliamentarian return the entire proven value of the illicit enrichment, which encompasses 14,239,590,000 Iraqi dinars and 12,442,500 U.S. dollars, which collectively exceed 61 billion Iraqi dinars at current valuation metrics. Pursuant to Article 19, Paragraph 4, of the integrity statute, the court also imposed an equal financial fine matching the full restitution amount, effectively doubling the monetary penalty levied against the lawmaker. The court handed down an additional sentence of three years of rigorous imprisonment against Nassif for concealing assets and falsifying mandatory financial disclosure declarations under Article 19, Paragraph 5, ordering the application of the heavier seven-year custodial sentence in accordance with penal procedure standards. Judicial authorities simultaneously upheld freezing orders placed on all her movable and immovable assets and granted the Federal Commission of Integrity the explicit legal right to claim additional civil damages once the ruling attains final, irrevocable status.
