The world is mourning the loss of several celebrities who have died this year, including Hayden Panettiere, Dolly Parton, Catherine O’Hara and James Van Der Beek. His mother confirmed to the New York Times the following day that Sheik passed away in a Manhattan hospital. According to People, the late songwriter’s cause of death was heart failure leading to cardiac arrest. Gloria Steinem Gloria Steinem (pictured above in 1990) died on Sept. 2 at 92. Getty Images Legendary feminist, writer and activist Gloria Steinem died on Sept. 2 at 92, according to a statement posted to her Instagram the following day. “Gloria’s near-century on earth were years well-lived, and she continued working for equality until the very end,” the Sept. 3 tribute read. “Gloria’s greatest gift was her ability to listen to others, to make others feel seen and heard,” the caption continued. “Her words, actions, and example gave people permission to be their truest selves. Gloria lived true to her independent spirit, always with curiosity and a great sense of humor.” Steinem, the statement noted, passed away at her New York home surrounded by loved ones. Samuel Monroe Jr. “Menace II Society” actor Samuel Monroe Jr. died on Aug. 26. He was 52. “Menace II Society” actor Samuel Monroe Jr. died Aug. 26. He was 52. Monroe Jr.’s family announced on Facebook that the actor passed away following a battle with meningitis. “I want to thank all of my facebook family and friends new and old for praying for Samuel Monroe, Jr., my son,” the actor’s mom, Joyce Patton, wrote. “But today God called him home. Please honor my final request to pray for the family especially his 3 children,” she shared. Monroe Jr. originally contracted a meningitis infection while working in Las Vegas. For the next few months, the infection worsened because several hospitals allegedly misdiagnosed his condition. In April, the “Player’s Club” star was hospitalized after the infection spread to his brain and spine, leading to MRSA pneumonia and kidney issues. Tim Curry Tim Curry passed away peacefully on Aug. 25 at his home in Los Angeles. Parton’s nephew and her longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, confirmed her passing in an Instagram post. “Hey everyone, my name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I am representing the Parton and Owne’s family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean,” Seaver began. “Sister, sis Aunt Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” he continued. “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality.” Parton’s tragic death comes after her husband, Carl Dean, died in March 2025 at the age of 82. An endless ray of sunshine. A daughter, a sister and friend to so many.” The post was captioned: “We will always love you so much Sydney. I am so proud of how hard you fought. I love you.” Sydney’s older brother, Austin Towle, shared the same post to his TikTok account, along with the caption: “I will always love you so so much. The best sister ever.” The internet personality — who had over 1.1 million followers on TikTok — was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in 2023. Vincent Pastore “Sopranos” star Vincent Pastore was found dead in his home. The director began his career writing screenplays and working on independent films as an assistant director and production manager. He was best known for his directorial work on 1994’s “The Mask,” and 1987’s “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.” Russell also collaborated with George Lucas’ “Industrial Light and Magic” to create visual effects for “The Mask.” Tony Thorpe Tony Thorpe, the guitarist of The Rubettes, (pictured here in 1975) has died. The other victims include passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim (also known as Argentinian YouTuber Gaspi), Lucas Brito Chaves, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac. James Handy James Handy was stabbed outside his Los Angeles home. Sony Pictures James Handy, a character actor best known for roles in “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Jumanji,” was killed on June 3 in a stabbing in Los Angeles. He was 81.As reported by The California Post, the Los Angeles Police Department said he was killed by his girlfriend’s son, Michael Gledhill. Gledhill has been charged with murder for the actor’s death. Anthony Guidera “The Godfather III” actor Anthony Guidera died on June 6 at age 65, his wife, Valarie, confirmed. valarie.anderson/Facebook News broke on June 9 that “The Godfather III” star Anthony Guidera died three days prior at his California residence. The actor was 65. He had been on life support for three weeks after collapsing at home in May — and his cause of death remains a mystery — Guidera’s wife, Valarie, told TMZ. Chapman’s cousin, Harlem Globetrotter Donte “Hammer” Harrison, also took to Instagram to reveal the actor died in his sleep “after years of fighting illness and dialysis.” “Life gave my cousin Grizz Chapman some heavy battles, but he fought them with strength and dignity until the very end,” Harrison said. “A lot of people knew him as the sitcom star from 30 Rock, but we knew the man behind the screen. The singer’s “music, energy, and legacy helped shape a generation and brought joy to millions around the world,” the statement went on, noting that “beyond the stage, he was a loving father, family man, friend, and creative force whose impact will never be forgotten. Dennis Locorriere Dennis Locorriere (front row, second from left) was a member of Dr. Hook. Getty Images Dennis Locorriere died on May 16, following a battle with kidney disease. He was 76. He was a member of the 70s band, Dr. Hook, who became famous for songs like “Cover Of The Rolling Stone,” “Sylvia’s Mother,” and “When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman.” Dr. Hook had more than 60 gold and platinum singles and reached number one in dozens of countries. “He will be remembered for his warmth, love, and the lasting impact he had on those around him,” a statement from his management read. Jake Hall Dave M. Benett “The Only Way Is Essex” star Jake Hall died at 35 on May 6 due to a fatal head injury from a house party freak accident. The British reality star is believed to have smashed his head into a glass door, a police source told The Sun. Hall may have “tried to harm himself by banging his head against things,” the outlet reported, adding, “It seems like he could have thrown himself against a door with glass in it, breaking it and suffering fatal injuries from the shards that broke off.” Hall is survived by daughter River. Christopher Serrone, who appeared with Beau in the Martin Scorsese classic, wrote via Instagram that Beau “enjoyed a rich and meaningful life” and that he “was a son, brother, father, grandfather, actor and NFL/CFL player.” The actor appeared in “Due South” across 66 episodes, as well as guest appearances on “T.J. Hooker,” “NYPD Blue,” “Knight Rider,” “Hill Street Blues,” and “The A-Team,” among many others. He made his big screen debut opposite Gilda Radner and Gene Wilder in “Hanky Panky” in 1982.
