Celebrate Polynesian Culture With Moana: Voices Across The Ocean Album Track Snippet

Not only is Moana bringing Polynesian culture to the big screen, but Disney's latest live-action remake is bringing music from the Pacific Islands to streaming services thanks to the companion album, Moana: Voices Across the Ocean. Executive produced by Dwayne Johnson, Lauren Hashian, Tiana Nonosina Liufau, and Kayla Fa'amaligi, the upcoming album features original songs inspired by the film and franchise — not to mention a new recording of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Opetaia Foa‘i's "We Know The Way." Disney Music Group is releasing Moana: Voices Across the Ocean on music platforms on July 31, and ScreenRant has a sneak peek of one of the exciting tracks: "In the Waves" by Iam Tongi and Paula Fuga. The project sees 25 Pacific artists come together to explore the themes of Moana through music, infusing the album with a diverse range of musical backgrounds and genres. Check out our exclusive sample of the track below: Artist Iam Tongi spoke about what inspired him to write the song alongside Paula Fuga. When Paula and I started writing this song, we immediately bonded over a childhood memory we shared of riding on our parents' shoulders as they carried us through the ocean waves. Like so many people, we've both experienced the loss of a parent, and that memory took on a whole new meaning. 'In The Waves' is about finding comfort in those memories and how the ocean has a way of connecting us to the people we love, even after they're gone. Fuga was similarly effusive in praising the collaborative experience, adding that, "It was such an honor to collaborate on this project with Iam Tongi. I hope our song inspires love and wonder in all who listen."
