Cavs vs. Thunder: preview, odds, injury report, TV

Cavaliers361/36Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder, November 2, 2026CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cavs have one game on the road to change the direction of a week that threatens to get away from them. Wednesday’s 8 p.m. tipoff at Paycom Center presents an immediate opportunity for redemption against the Oklahoma City Thunder, who handed Cleveland a 117-112 loss Monday at Rocket Arena. The rematch comes with a familiar caveat: Oklahoma City (5-2) remains one of the most talented teams in the NBA, but much of that talent is currently unavailable. The Thunder will again be without Chet Holmgren, Thomas Sorber, Nikola Topic, Cason Wallace and Jalen Williams, while Jaylin Williams is questionable with back spasms. Cleveland, meanwhile, will be without Nae’Qwan Tomlin (back), Jaylon Tyson (ankle) and Peyton Watson (hamstring).Expert release Cavaliers vs. Thunder prediction as Mitchell and SGA headline latest Kalshi propsCavs rookie Meleek Thomas savors first NBA start as legend continues to grow3 areas the Cavs must clean up before they can be considered legitimate contendersMonday exposed how difficult it can be to contain Shai Gilgeous-Alexander without two of Cleveland’s top perimeter defenders. The reigning MVP finished with 43 points, repeatedly finding ways to get downhill and put pressure on a defense that struggled to keep the ball in front of it. Oklahoma City also dictated the terms inside, exploiting back cuts, off-ball movement and the space created by its offensive hubs to find open teammates around the basket. Whether through Gilgeous-Alexander’s isolation game, Isaiah Hartenstein’s underrated passing acumen or Ajay Mitchell’s ability to attack off the dribble, Cleveland had too few answers. The Thunder won the paint battle 50-30.The Cavaliers need a different approach on both ends in the rematch. Offensively, particularly with Alex Caruso not listed on OKC’s injury report and likely to pick up the assignment against Donovan Mitchell or James Harden, that starts with leaning more heavily on their size. Cleveland’s bigs can create advantages through screening, physicality, vertical spacing and their ability to facilitate out of the pocket or in the short roll. Those actions could generate cleaner opportunities than the isolation-heavy possessions that too often defined Monday’s offense. Defensively, the Cavaliers must do a better job containing penetration, communicating through Oklahoma City’s off-ball movement and finishing possessions with rebounds rather than giving the Thunder second chances. There is little room for another night of wasted opportunities, either. Cleveland needs to convert open looks, take better advantage of its trips to the free-throw line and bring the urgency required to compete with one of the league’s best teams. At 4-3, the Cavs have an opportunity to reclaim some pride before returning to Rocket Arena for a weekend slate against the Philadelphia 76ers and defending champion New York Knicks. Wednesday is about more than evening the score with Oklahoma City. It’s a chance to show that the lessons and adjustments from Monday’s loss can translate into something better before the competition gets even tougher. Here’s what to know about the matchup:Who: Cleveland Cavaliers vs. OKC ThunderSeries: Final matchup in the regular season.Where: Paycom Center When: 8 p.m. ET.The point spread: Thunder minus-2.5; O/U 227.5TV: DAZN-CLEInjury reportCavsOut:Khalifa Diop (G League – On Assignment)Nae’Qwan Tomlin (Low back stress reaction)Jaylon Tyson (Right ankle sprain)Ernest Udeh Jr. (G League – Two-Way)Peyton Watson (Right hamstring tightness/soreness)ThunderQuestionable:Jaylin Williams (low back spasms)Out:Chet Holmgren (Right knee injury recovery)Thomas Sorber (Right knee surgery)Nikola Topic (Low back surgery)Cason Wallace (Left shoulder surgery)Jalen Williams (Left ankle surgery)Ethan Sands is a sports journalist and podcast host for Cleveland.com, where he covers the Cleveland Cavaliers and hosts the Wine and Gold Talk podcast.
