Two actors who memorably portrayed Catwoman on the big screen are uniting for a new movie. In 2004, Halle Berry starred in Catwoman as the movie's version of the titular DC character. Nearly 18 years later, Zoë Kravitz joined the cast of The Batman as Selina Kyle and donned the suit of the longtime comic book antihero. Now, it has just been announced that the two talented stars will be headlining a movie together. Deadline has reported that Berry and Kravitz are set to co-star as a mother-and-daughter pair in an upcoming romantic comedy titled Otherwise Engaged. The film will also feature Colin Firth and Jack Whitehall, who will be portraying a father and son. Check out Otherwise Engaged's official synopsis below: "Charlie (Whitehall) is ready to marry the love of his life, Gabby (Kravitz), until his estranged father (Firth), a fallen business tycoon fresh out of prison, shows up on their doorstep and soon falls for Gabby’s fiercely independent mother (Berry). Now, their parents’ unlikely romance threatens to turn Charlie and Gabby’s dream wedding into their worst nightmare." Otherwise Engaged is being produced and directed by Suzanne Farwell based on a script she co-wrote with Gabriel Mizrahi. While Farwell will be a first-time director, she previously produced the beloved romantic comedies Something's Gotta Give, The Holiday, and It's Complicated. Filming is slated to begin in New York in March 2027. Farwell told Deadline about why she is very excited to be working on the project. "I am passionate about making films that make us laugh out loud while taking us on a deep and meaningful emotional journey. Having spent much of my career helping bring sophisticated relationship comedies to the screen, I couldn’t be more excited to bring my love for this genre to Otherwise Engaged. I’m thrilled to be working with such an extraordinary cast and creative team to bring it to life and look forward to introducing the project to the international marketplace at TIFF." The film is being produced by Farwell and Susan Cartsonis for Resonate Entertainment, and Laura Rister for Esme Grace Pictures. Farwell's co-producers spoke to Deadline about why she is the right person to helm Otherwise Engaged. "Suzanne is perfectly positioned to become a triple threat as the producer of some of the most popular modern romantic comedies of the past 20 years. We are thrilled to support her on this sophisticated generational rom com for which she’s co-written, and drawn together our dream cast of Colin, Halle, Zoë and Jack. Suzanne will direct a film we know everyone will want to watch on repeat." Deadline's report noted that CAA Media Finance is in charge of the U.S. rights while Mister Smith Entertainment will be handling international sales of the film at the upcoming TIFF Market. The CEO of Mister Smith Entertainment, David Garrett, spoke to the outlet about what he believes will make the movie special. "With not one, but two blossoming romances, some razor-sharp wit and an unbeatable cast, Otherwise Engaged is a truly exciting recipe for success. With her decades of experience as Nancy Meyers’ producing partner, we are thrilled to support Suzanne’s vision, and think this is one that will have audiences head over heels." When the cast of The Batman: Part II was announced, many fans were understandably upset that Kravitz's name didn't appear. While the news that she will star in an upcoming romantic comedy may not assuage those frustrations, there are still ample reasons to be excited about the project. In addition to playing a key role in The Batman earning rave reviews, Kravitz has starred in other excellent movies like Mad Max: Fury Road, Kimi, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. After working on those great movies, she is now going to share the screen with two beloved and Oscar-winning actors, Firth and Berry, in a film that seems to have immense potential. While it is wonderful that Otherwise Engaged has such a star-studded cast, the really fantastic thing for fans is that it will have two Catwoman actors portraying a mother and her daughter.
