Castlevania 3D Collection Officially Teased In Anniversary Video

A new video celebrating Castlevania’s 40th anniversary has a not-so-subtle tease for the final collection that fans have been begging for, although perhaps not to the fullest extent. In just a few weeks, Castlevania is finally making its grand comeback with Belmont’s Curse, which is the first wholly new game in more than a decade. To be fair, though, Konami has kept the series alive through multiple classic collections that have remastered nearly every single game in the series. Over the past few years, we’ve had collections for nearly every set of Castlevania games, from the classics in the Anniversary Collection to the DS games in the particularly impressive Dominus Collection. That’s just left one big subset of Castlevania games without a bundle - the 3D games that everyone has been asking to see return. Well, it seems that’s happening soon. The Teased Games Are A Little Confusing, Though Earlier today, Konami posted a video celebrating Castlevania’s 40th anniversary, which is tomorrow, September 26. Towards the end of the video, Simon Belmont is shown making his way up to Dracula’s Keep, where he walks past four paintings. Ignoring the one representing Belmont’s Curse as the next step in the series, the three paintings are a pretty big tease. Those paintings represent Curse of Darkness, Lament of Innocence, and the first Lords of Shadow game, which are three of the Castlevania series’ 3D games. That seems to be pretty clearly teasing a 3D collection, which is something that fans have been wanting to see for a really long time now. That being said, the selected games are a little confusing. For starters, we only see the first Lords of Shadow game here, despite there being a sequel, which is actually the last Castlevania game to have been released. It’s also missing Castlevania 64 or the expanded version of that game, Legacy of Darkness. Since Castlevania 64 was obviously exclusive to the Nintendo 64, it’s possible that there’s some kind of licensing issue there. That didn’t stop the Dominus Collection from having all of the DS games, though, so I can’t really imagine why it might not be included. I guess we’ll see what ends up getting included, but it’s clear a 3D collection of some kind is in the works.
